MTN FA Cup: Kotoko humble Nations FC in 6-goal thriller in Kumasi

Ghanaian giants Asante Kotoko have reached the next stage of the 2023/24 MTN FA Cup after humbling local rivals Nations FC at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi on Tuesday.

The Porcupine Warriors march on to the next stage after securing the crucial 4-2 victory over their mushrooming neighbours after frustrating them to a 2-2 drawn game during their league clash last month.

Midfielder Richard Lamptey sparked the early riot by scoring twice with prodigy Isaac Oppong grabbing the third to put Kotoko in a 3-0 lead in the opening 20 minutes of the clash.

Ugandan forward Steven Mukwala added the fourth to nail the coffin of the home side with Nations' two consolation goals proving worthless in the end.

Kassim Ocansey Mingle will now have to redirect his side's focus back to the league campaign as they battle for a place on the top four.

Nations went into the fixture brimming with confidence having won all of their last 3 games in the league.

Kotoko will know their next opponents in the competition after the completion of games on Wednesday and Thursday.

The much-anticipated clash between holders Dreams FC and Susubiribi Sporting Club has been postponed due to the Believers' campaign on the African continent.
